Original information:
Mrs J. Bugg nee Baker migrated to Canterbury with her family (see Richard Baker). It is hard to tell whether this is Matilda (10), Mary Ann (8), or Sarah (infant). In 1900, Mrs Bugg was living in Kaiapoi.

Readers’ response:
This is Sarah Bugg nee Baker. Sarah married John Bugg in 1872 or 1873 at the Kaiapoi Church of England. Sarah’s sister, Matilda, married Robert Marshall Wright on April 28, 1859, in Kaiapoi. 1

A family member says Mrs Bugg’s surname is Butt, not Bugg, and that the family arrived from Giles Lane and moved to Kaiapoi in 1859, then settled in Akaroa Street. 2 It is likely that this surname pertains to another family member and not Sarah Baker, who married John Bugg.

Footnotes:
1. Ian Wright, unpublished family history
2. Patricia Tubman, unpublished family history
