Readers’ response:
Mrs R. M. Cresswell is wrongly identified as the daughter of Martha King. This is Elizabeth Pattrick, and she is standing next to her sister, Mrs Maria Free. 1

    Elizabeth Pattrick 1840 – 1912, Elizabeth was born in West Keal, Lincolnshire, England, she died at Christchurch and is buried at Linwood Cemetery. Elizabeth came to NZ with her parents, Joseph and Alice Pattrick on the “Cressy”.

    In 1862 Elizabeth married Robert Marshall Cresswell, who came to NZ in 1850 on the “Sir George Seymour” with his parents, Thomas Richards Marshall Cresswell and Jemima TAYLOR. Elizabeth and Robert had 14 children.

    Charles Marshall Cresswell 1863 – 1934, married in 1888 Eleanor Mary Sleight 1863 – 1946 (daughter of John Sleight and Maria Ironmonger).
    Walter Joseph Cresswell 1864 – 1950, married in 1891 to Hannah Reese 1872 – 1945 (daughter of John Reese and Eliza Ann Meddings).
    Alice Jemima Cresswell 1866 – 1940, married in 1896 to Xavier Johns 1865 – 1920 (son of Edmund JONES and Rebecca Fletcher).
    Thomas Richard Cresswell 1868 – 1944. married in 1896 to Sarah Ann Reese 1868 – 1940 (daughter of John Reese and Eliza Ann Meedings).
    Jessie Cresswell 1870 – 1946 (Jessie was the twin of Frank).
    Frank Cresswell 1870 – 1871 (Frank was the twin of Jessie).
    Mary Cresswell 1872 – 1872.
    Mary Gertrude Cresswell 1873 – 1940, married 1st in 1894 Matthew Arlow Ferguson 1869 – 1906 (son of Richard Ferguston and Elizabeth Arlow), married 2nd in 1909 to John Philip Heggie 1886 – 1963 (son of John Philip Heggie and Helen Carins).
    Frank Cresswell 1875 – 1941
    Robert Laughton Cresswell 1876 – 1949, married 1st in 1908 to Gertrude Edith Suisted 1877 – 1918 (daughter of Eric Henry Oscar Suisted and Susanna Jane Davidson), married 2nd in 1934 Hilda Elizabeth Koberstein 1895 – 1976
    Annie Taylor Cresswell 1878 – 1879.
    Leonard Taylor Cresswell 1880 – 1946, married in 1903 to Flora Isobel Free 1879 – 1943 (daughter of Robert Rice Free and Flora Thompson)
    Bertha Seymour Free 1881 – 1957.
    Albert John Broughton Cresswell 1883 – 1951, married in 1909 to Vilna Irene Guy 1888 – 1966 (daughter of Richard Joseph GUY and Elizabeth Thompson)
