Edwin Mouldey

Edwin Coxhead Mouldey (1842-1925) emigrated to Canterbury when he was nine with his parents, Moses (1810-1882), a bricklayer, and Eleanor (38), his siblings Moses (12), Mary Ann (6), William (3), Phoebe (1), and Eleanor (b. December 21, 1850), and relatives Henry (17), a bricklayer, and Sophia (14), a servant. According to records, Edwin became a baker and confectioner and a speculative builder, and in 1900 was living in Worcester Street, Christchurch.
In 1900, his brother Henry was living in Palmerston North and William was living in Hastings.

According to the family, Edwin was actually born in May 1841 in Stockcross Speen, Newbury, England and died on April 14, 1925. He is buried in the Linwood cemetery. On October 28, 1878, Edwin married Jessie Lander (1857-1913). Edwin and Jessie had five children − Ethel (1879-1921), Walter Edwin (1880-1958), Frederick Lander (1883-1914), Amy Eleanor (1884-1939) and Eva Rebecca (b. 1890).1

Edwin Mouldey sailed on the Cressy with his family which included his father Moses 39, mother Eleanor (Ellen) nee Coxhead 38 and his siblings. Henry 17, Sophia 13, Moses (Tom) 12, Edwin 9, Mary Ann 7, William 5, Phoebe 1 and Eleanor born 7 days before the ship docked. His parents bought a servant with them Maria Clifford. Henry was classed as a single male with the profession of bricklayer. His sister Sophia was classed as a single woman and a profession as a servant.
