Original information:
Mrs Antonia Zuppruch nee Cleaver migrated to Canterbury with her family (see Henry Cleaver). Mrs Zuppruch is either Eliza (9) or Mary (7). In 1900, she was living in Woodend.

Readers’ response:
This is Mary Ann Zuppicich nee Cleaver, who married Antonio Zuppicich on April 17, 1863, at Woodend. Antonio was born in Slovakia in the Austrian Empire and came to New Zealand on the Sebastopol in 1861. 1

The family says the name is variously spelt Zuppruch, Zupperich, Zuppeich and Zuppucich, but Zuppicich is the family’s spelling.
They lived in Woodend, where Antonio became a wheat farmer 2 and raised a family of eight.

Many of their descendants still live in North Canterbury. Mary Ann died in 1908, aged 64, and both are buried in St Barnabas’ cemetery, Woodend. 3
