Return to Sir George Seymour Group Photo

Original information:
Mrs Mary Washbourne emigrated to Canterbury with her husband and children. It seems that Mary lived at “Brockworth’’, in Lower Riccarton, for most of her life.

Readers’ response:
According to a family member, Mary Washbourne was the second wife of Henry John Washbourne, and the children were from his first wife, who died in England in 1847. Family members believe this is a photo of Mrs Henry John Washbourne Jun. nee Fanny Durey, who arrived on the Sir George Seymour with her parents George (46), a grazier, and Elizabeth (48) and siblings Eliza (13), Elizabeth (19), John (16) and George (18).

Fanny and Henry lived at “The Bungalow’’ in Selwyn/Dunsandel after they were married. 1
