Thomas Frederick Peel (1824-1907) was the second son of William Henry Peel of Aylesmore House, Gloucestershire, England. Thomas selected Rural Section 127 on what was known as the Dry Bush, high above the Rapaki Native Reserve. He lived in Opawa, and on November 1, 1859, he married Rhoda Kent at the Lower Heathcote Church. Rhoda died on May 15, 1897.
