Mrs W. Buss, nee Mary Elizabeth Howard, migrated when she was six with her father, Smith (42), and her siblings, Smith (15), Lucy (13), George (10) and Agnes (8).
According to records, Mrs W. Buss was living in Rangiora in 1900. Mary Elizabeth may have been the wife of William Buss of Rangiora, who bought Mount Brown Station in the 1890s.

Sources confirm that Mrs Buss (1844-1917) was the wife of William Buss, who was a farmer and auctioneer in Rangiora. They were married in 1867. Smith Howard, Elizabeth’s father, bought land in Hoon Hay Valley and later moved to Rangiora, where he farmed and also ran a brewery. 1
